Falconry Experience: Franciscan Gardens
The Venue

The Franciscan Gardens have been a hidden gem in the centre of Canterbury since the 13th Century with the first Franciscan community being gifted a small island of land when they arrived from Italy in 1224. They used the land to create humble dwellings and a chapel as well as a practical garden filled with Mediterranean herbs and medicinal plants to support their ministry.
The Environment

The garden reinterprets the former monastic way of life and successive horticultural legacies functioning both as a practical place to grow what was needed as well as a place of spiritual contemplation.
Take a seat and relax in the picturesque wildflower meadow, dotted with heritage fruit trees or enjoy a walk beside the crystal clear water of the Great Stour river.
The Experience

Our hour long experience takes place within the gardens and is a hands on encounter with a range of birds of prey. You will learn a brief history of falconry whilst learning the skills and techniques needed to handle and fly birds of prey. You will then get the opportunity to fly a range of birds to your gloved hand as well as a relaxing walk with them throughout the gardens and along the river.
